Generally, turning the car ignition off and back on resolves, difficult to do if you're on the road. If the radio is on it stays on, volume can't be controlled, etc. "Sometimes, the screen freezes, all the controls become nonfunctional. We were driving through Atlanta and needed to hear the GPS. Another failure mode is it will start scrolling through the channels by itself or copying the current channel slot into the slots below (which is a pain because I then have to go and fix that when it unfreezes). One failure mode is that I go to change something and it is frozen. I don't even have to be touching it when it freezes. It is not consistent when it freezes up either, as in sometimes when I start the car it will be frozen and other times it will freeze up after I have been driving. It seems to happen when it is particularly hot or cold but I haven't tracked it thoroughly enough to determine that as the cause. It is extremely frustrating but I will just deal with the occasional freezing. Though even when this happened the radio still functioned. I replaced it twice before because the screen eventually went completely blank and wouldn't turn on no matter what. Since the problem solves itself I haven't replaced the current unit yet. It is extremely frustrating as I have the display unit replaced twice since I have owned the vehicle and it still causes me issues. When it freezes though the radio still works yet I can't control it via the screen, the buttons on the wheel, or even the physical volume knob. It will usually solve itself after I shut the car off and turn it back on. It will not happen for months and then repeatedly happen. "I complained on a Subaru survey about the dealer not addressing the problem and a few days later I received a call from Subaru. second dealership diagnosed the problem and replaced the front cameras immediately. first dealership did not diagnose or address the problem correctly. without the cameras all other safety driving functions failed.

"Camera sensors malfunction when temps drop below freezing" (2016 Subaru Forester XT 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo) "Eyesight system stops being operational when there is a storm" The less light that reflects back on the camera, the more "snow" appears" "When it is dark out and no light is reflecting back on the rear view camera (as it would be when the reverse lights are reflecting off a wall or a street light is shining on the rear of the car), the display screen has "snow" making it difficult to see the camera image.
